About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested La Liga encounter, Deportivo Alavés edged out Espanyol with a 2-1 victory on Friday, 30 January 2026. The match unfolded with Espanyol initially taking the lead, but Alavés mounted a successful comeback to secure all three points. The game began with Espanyol's Roberto Fernández (GAP +0.8%) opening the scoring in the 15th minute, giving the home side an early advantage. However, Alavés responded strongly, with Antonio Blanco (GAP -1.9%) equalizing in the 27th minute. The decisive moment came in the 71st minute when Lucas Boyé (GAP +0.5%) found the back of the net, sealing the victory for the visitors. Espanyol's lineup featured no changes from their previous match, while Deportivo Alavés made several adjustments. Jon Guridi, Facundo Garcés, Youssef Enríquez, and Ander Guevara were introduced as substitutes, indicating a strategic shift by the Alavés head coach to maintain their momentum and secure the win. Carlos Benavídez (GAP +4.2%) was instrumental for Alavés, providing a solid midfield presence that helped control the tempo of the game. Despite Espanyol's efforts, including substitutions like Tyrhys Dolan and Rubén Sánchez, they were unable to break down the resilient Alavés defense. This result sees Deportivo Alavés continue their positive run, potentially climbing the La Liga table and boosting their confidence for upcoming fixtures. Espanyol, on the other hand, will need to regroup and address their defensive lapses as they aim to improve their standing in the league. Overall, the match was a testament to Alavés' resilience and tactical acumen, as they managed to overturn an early deficit and secure a crucial away victory.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
